Power Transmission

After 14 years with industrial distribution of power transmission components and related engineering, this is one of our niche domains.

We design new drive applications, analyze existing ones and suggest improvements.

Our “drop-in” packages replace existing drives with new ones ready to be installed using existing mounting arrangements, with minimal changes.

We design bearing housings and seals for heavy duty applications.

We have the capabilities to analyze existing mechanical components (pulleys, conveyor pulleys, shafts, bearing housings, drive bases, etc.) using Finite Elements Analysis.

Our designs can be found in different industries from one coast to another.

Power Transmission Equipment, design and product selection

Extensive experience in power transmission product selection and design was acquired during Voya’s tenure at BC Bearing, a major Canadian industrial supplier of bearings, power transmission components and material handling equipment.

In 1995  Voya has started a Technical Services Division in British Columbia for BC Bearing. His various engineered solutions can be found all over the Western Canadian industrial environment.

Here is an example of a “drop in” drive replacing the existing drive old motor with a new motor. A new drive base had to be designed to accommodate existing equipment.

Example 1:

Example of a drop-in drive replacement design.

Drop in replacement drives with off the shelf, or customized components are one of his trademarks. Here is a couple of examples from the paper industry:

Example 2:

Effluent Treatment Mechanical ‘A’ Basin Vertical Turbine Aerator, Canfor Northwood Pulp, Prince George

The project was to replace the existing drive with a new one.  Special requirements were that the entire drive had to be able to accommodate the variations of the pond water level.  Therefore had to have a vertical travel of 6”.  The drive consisted of:

1. Motor 150 HP,

2. Motor Adapter Flange (Voya’s original design)

3. Motor to reducer coupling “Atraflex M4”

4. Reducer SEW-Santasalo M3PVSF60, reduction 35.71:1

5. Low speed coupling by BC Bearing (Voya’s original design)

6. Adjustable drive base and mounting hardware by BC Bearing (Voya’s original design)

Example 3:

Tower 60 “B” Scraper Drive, Canfor Northwood Pulp, Prince George

The drive consisted of:

1.      Motor 60 HP by Customer

2.      Reducer SEW-Santasalo 3PC315N, Ratio 70.48:1

3.      Low speed coupling by BC Bearing (Voya’s original design)

4.      Drive base by BC Bearing (Voya’s original design)
